General Notes
Lovely Italian restaurant in the Inner Sunset (although they have many other locations too). I first heard of this place when I was at um.ma nearby; I was chatting with a stranger who lives in Inner Sunset, and he highly recommended this place. I was not disappointed; it'll definitely be one of the places I recommend from here on out too. The food is delightful, the vibes are nice, and dishes are pretty reasonably priced. From what I can tell, this place can get VERY busy though -- I came here on Labor Day for dinner without a reservation for a party of 2 and was told that there was a 2-hour wait. Luckily, two seats at the bar happened to open up right as we came in, and we were seated immediately; I'm so grateful for that.
Dishes Tasted
- ★★★☆ Guittard Chocolate Budino -- candied hazelnuts and sea salt. Feels just like eating a ferroro rocher, except better -- lovely thick / creamy consistency, flavors are on point, and the flaky sea salt adds a nice touch.
- ★★★☆ Corn Risotto -- riso acquerello, corn, parmigiano reggiano, tarragon. Simple and delicious. I've never had corn in risotto before, and it brought a nice sweet contrast to the other ingredients. The tarragon was also a wonderful addition. Well seasoned, well balanced, delicious.
- ★★★★ Funghi Pie -- cremini & oyster mushrooms, rosemary, garlic, crecenza & fontina Val d'Aosta. This pizza is AMAZING. The crust is light, airy, and crispy. I have no idea what it is about this specific cheese, but it's SO GOOD in this pizza. Overall, the flavor combination is spot on.
- ★★☆☆ Wood-Roasted Eggplant Crostini -- charred eggplant puree, almond and early girl tomato jam. You can definitely taste the roasted flavor of the eggplant, quite a nice, well balanced combination. Note that this is served cold.
- ★★☆☆ Squash and Zucchini Fritti -- tempura fried summer squash and pickled ramp aioli. The aioli is solid -- the ramps give it a nice garlicky / oniony kick. Fried pretty well, though many of the pieces stuck together and the vegetable itself felt somewhat overcooked at times.
- ★☆☆☆ Cucumber Nojito -- seedlip garden n/a distillate, lime, mint, sugar, soda, tall. This drink was unbalanced; the lime was overpowering and the other flavor notes (cucumber, mint) couldn't shine at all.
