General Notes
A nice Chinese restaurant in the outer sunset, serving up all kinds of Chinese classics, especially dumplings, but also noodles and a whole bunch of other dishes. Overall, pretty solid food at a very reasonable price point -- definitely worth a visit. This place seems to be pretty well-known, and as such the lines can get pretty long -- expect a wait if you come during peak hours.
EDIT: apparently they also have a location in the Castro, which I went to one day without realizing it.
Dishes Tasted
- ★★★☆ Shrimp Siu Mai -- nice flavor, tender, nice texture on the wrapper
- ★★★☆ Pea Shoots -- well-cooked and flavorful. My only complaint is that it was _slightly_ too salty, which is a rare complaint coming from me.
- ★☆☆☆ 小笼包 -- I like the wrappers, and the relatively loose filling is nice. I wish there were a bit more soup in these, however (around half of them were devoid of soup). It was definitely somewhat lacking in flavor, and the vinegar didn't feel appropriately balanced.
- ★★★☆ 上海生煎包 -- Excellent texture -- well fried and perfectly cooked. The flavors are pretty solid, overall. The only thing is that I wish the bottom dough were slightly thinner -- a touch more emphasis on the filling would have been nice.
- ★★☆☆ 干煸四季豆 -- Pretty solid, well cooked. The flavor is somewhat uninspiring (I don't think pickled vegetables works super well with this), but overall a solid dish.
