General Notes

Dumpling Home is probably one of the best dumpling restaurants in San Francisco. Apparently it was recently recognized by the Michelin guide, and as a result the line can get VERY long -- expect a crowd outside during peak hours. The wait is definitely worth it though -- give it a try!

Positives

> They actually steam their XLB straight in the bamboo steamer insert over some parchment paper. None of that aluminum tin nonsense. And they also provide a specialized large spoon for eating the XLB. Their XLB are definitely one of the highlights of the experience.

Negatives

> The wait can get pretty long, particularly during peak hours. Try to get there early if you can, and maybe explore around Hayes Valley if the wait is long.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★★ 葱油海蜇皮 -- I'm usually not the biggest fan of this dish, but this was REALLY good. Excellent flavor, perfectly seasoned, and delightful bouncy texture.
  • ★★☆☆ 锅贴 -- It was pretty good, but I'd probably suggest sticking to their other options.
  • ★★★★ 葱油饼 -- The texture on these is INCREDIBLE -- it's somehow thin, crispy, and not tough in the middle.
  • ★★★★ 猪肉小笼包 -- Lovely texture on the wrapper. Filling is a bit looser than the typical XLB but in a positive way and nicely flavorful. Very good!
  • ★★★★ 生煎包 -- The texture is incredible, and there's SO much soup inside.
  • ★★★☆ 白菜猪肉水饺 -- The wrapper had a delightful chewy texture with the perfect resistance. The filling was solid.
  • ★★★★ 干煸四季豆 -- Honestly, I wish I could buy such high quality green beans. Vibrant color, delightful texture, and subtle but flavorful.
