General Notes

A homey Filipino restaurant serving up comfort food classics. Several of my Filipino friends have recommended this place, and it didn't disappoint -- the food was really tasty. The portions are absolutely huge (it's almost like they're designed for you to have a bunch of leftovers to take home later). Also keep in mind the somewhat unusual hours -- they close pretty early so getting dinner here might be tough unless you're doing takeout. But if you're down for lunch, this is definitely one of the better Filipino restaurants I've been to.

Negatives

> They're generally only open from 11am-6pm each day, which makes dinner pretty inconvenient. I ended up just coming here for lunch instead, although takeout also seems pretty popular here.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★☆☆ Kare Kare Classic -- tender oxtail and tripe in peanut sauce and veggies. The flavor was good, the meat was well prepared, I would have liked the peanut sauce to be a touch thicker.
  • ★★☆☆ Tortang Talong -- eggplant omelette. Pretty solid, personally a bit too much egg relatively to eggplant for my taste but otherwise well-prepared
  • ★★☆☆ Lechon Kawali -- seasoned deep fried pork belly. Fried pretty well, the crispy skin is lovely. Overall, probably not my favorite dish in general, but that's moreso the dish itself than about how they make it.
  • ★★★☆ Lumpiang Shanghai -- deep fried pork spring roll. Fried well, lovely texture, and served with two sauces -- something akin to applesauce and a sweet and sour sauce
  • ★★★☆ Garlic Rice -- wonderful flavor; the bits of crispy garlic on top and the sliced scallions are a nice touch.
  • ★★★☆ Sizzling Sisig -- pork, chicken, fried and sauteed in a special sauce, spices, onions, jalapenos, fried eg. Delicious -- the flavors are lovely and the occasional pieces of fattier pork give the dish a delightful savoriness. The flavors are really nice, maybe would have liked slightly less bell pepper but that's a minor nit.
