General Notes
Amazing Peruvian restaurant right at the easternmost edge of the Marina. The food here is DELIGHTFUL, in all caps. Given the number of reviews, Cancha seems like a fairly new restaurant (as of December 2021). They were recently featured on Eater and the food does not disappoint. The food is bright, vibrant, and an explosion of flavor. The menu looks a bit pricey (reflective of typical expensive upscale prices), but the portions are huge -- don't make the same mistake as me and order three different things. The ceviche is to die for and the skewers are delicious. I will definitely be returning.
Dishes Tasted
- ★★★☆ Seco de Ossobuco -- Slow cooked cilantro based ossobuco, cannelini beans, salsa criolla, crunchy farofa. The dish as a whole is a bit heavy (especially with the thick sauce and the beans), and could use a bit more acidity to balance it out. But the execution and flavor of each individual component is spot-on.
- ★★★☆ Anticucho Corazon -- Aji amarillo anticuchera, fingerling potato, choclo, rocoto sauce. This was a special offering, with beef heart. The sauce is DELICIOUS and the smoky flavor of the meat is delightful. Everything is well balanced and comes together so well. If I had gotten the pollo or carne, this would easily be a 4 but the flavor / texture of the beef heart didn't quite work as well with this.
- ★★★★ Ceviche Pasion -- mahi mahi, shrimp, aji amarillo, habanero, red onions, sweet potatoes, avocado, cilantro, cancha emulcified "leche de tigre". Possibly the best ceviche I've had. Bright, vibrant, perfectly balanced flavors. The individual ingredients are just perfect too.
