General Notes
Cafe Okawari has a simple menu but executes it very well. Focuses on modern Japanese classics like curry, donburi, and katsu. Their drinks are definitely worth trying out too. A bit on the pricier side but absolutely worth it. Just look at that beautiful interior decor with the hanging shelves and plants! So far, I've tried their katsu sandwiches and curry, and both are delightful.
Dishes Tasted
- ★★☆☆ Beef Gyudon -- Pretty solid all-around, but not particularly noteworthy. It wasn't served super warm, so it didn't have that same sort of savory appeal to it.
- ★★★☆ Chicken Katsu Sando -- panko fried chicken, mayo, tonkatsu sauce, cabbage, milk bread. The chicken is SO TENDER AND JUICY. Probably one of the best katsu sandos I've had. I would like a bit more mayo and tonkatsu sauce, but that's a minor point.
- ★★★☆ Croquette Curry -- corn and potato croquettes, curry, Japanese pickles, rice. The curry has the perfect consistency and a lovely acidic tang to it. The pickled vegetables and sesame seeds that come with the rice are a nice subtle touch that add a nice flavor / textural contrast. Croquettes are delightfully crisp on the exterior, soft and subtly sweet on the inside. Delicious and pairs wonderfully with a bit of curry!
- ★★★☆ Hojicha Latte -- Good quality, just the right strength. I could have asked for a touch more sweetener, though.
