General Notes

A nice cafe, pretty close to Berkeley Bowl. In addition to their coffee and pastries (the pastries seem meh), they specialize in empanadas, which were pretty delicious. Every order of empanadas is typically served with a sauce that's similar to a chimichurri sauce but with much more emphasis on the olive oil -- a bit too oily for my taste but it does add a bit of a herbaceous contrast.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★☆☆☆ Mini Beignet Chocolate Trio -- white, dark, hazelnut. meh, pretty dry pastry and the consistency of the filling was too firm.
  • ★★★☆ Chai Latte
  • ★★☆☆ Mushroom Empanada -- caramelized mushrooms, red and white onions, red peppers, a blend of Jack and Cheddar cheese, herbs
  • ★★★☆ Roasted Eggplant and Tomato Empanada -- roasted eggplant, roasted tomatoes, red onion, tomato sauce, garbanzo beans, and garlic.
  • ★★☆☆ Fugazzetta Empanada -- caramelized red and white onions, a blend of Mozzarella and Parmesan cheese, oregano, and other herbs. Pretty solid but a bit one-dimensional
  • ★★★☆ Chorizo Empanada -- beef chorizo, Yukon potato, scrambled eggs, Jack & cheddar cheese, salty pepper and herbs, green onions.
  • ★★★☆ Humita Empanada -- corn grains, red and white onions, green onions, red peppers, a blend of Jack and Cheddar cheese, herbs. Probably my favorite one -- nice flavor combination and the corn adds a sweetness that balances everything out nicely
