General Notes

Brenda's Meat & Three serves up southern classics in a comfortable environment with delightful service. It's a nice departure from the stereotypical San Francisco restaurant "hip" vibe. Good, simple food -- would happily return to try their other offerings.

Positives

> The heaters in the back patio are very strong. Having great heating really makes the dining experience much nicer in San Francisco.
> Try their beignet sampler, they're amazing!

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★★ Beignet Sampler -- First time having beignets, they were amazing. Awesome texture (soft interior, crispy exterior). Just the right level of sweetness. Somehow, the powdered sugar on top was the best powdered sugar I've ever had.
  • ★★★☆ Sweet Potato Fries -- Delightful, perfectly cooked. In my opinion, sweet potato fries are not exactly underrated but I wish more restaurants would serve them.
  • ★★☆☆ Coleslaw -- Decent coleslaw, nothing particularly noteworthy
  • ★★★☆ Cheese Grits -- Delightful texture and flavor -- the small amount of melted cheese and the creamy grits make for a very harmonious pairing.
  • ★★☆☆ BBQ Spare Ribs -- Sauce is great and I like the light smokiness. The spare ribs were a bit dry at places, though
  • ★★☆☆ Corn Succotash -- Some of the vegetables were slightly overcooked, but the flavor was delightful. It had a touch of acidity, which rounded out the dish nicely.
  • ★★★☆ Low Country Gumbo -- Crab, shrimp, andouille sausage, okra, tomato, scallion, rice. Excellent texture. Simple and delicious.
