General Notes

Boqueria is a Spanish tapas restaurant with many locations scattered throughout New York. While none of the dishes I tried were particularly amazing, all the dishes were solid across the board. A little bit on the expensive side, but the atmosphere is nice. I'd recommend giving one of the many locations a try.

Positives

> The atmosphere is nice; this is a wonderful place for a date or a smallish group dinner. I made the questionable decision of coming here myself, but I sat at the bar and the bartender was awesome.
> Most of the dishes come with bread on the side. Had I known this I probably wouldn't have ordered the pan con tomate, but I like that a tapas restaurant would provide something carby on the side of most of their dishes.

Negatives

> Very, very busy. You should definitely try to make a reservation if you plan to come here with anyone more than yourself. Alternatively, you can wait for a spot at the bar (with just yourself or + another person), first come first serve.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★☆ Pulpo a la Plancha -- Grilled octopus, fennel, smoked pimentón, Picual olive oil mashed potatoes. The octopus has good flavor and a nice tender texture. The fennel is crisp and nicely acidic. The mashed potatoes are remarkable - first time I've ever had mashed potatoes with a heavy olive oil flavor.
  • ★★★☆ Cojonudo -- Quail egg, chorizo Palacios, toast points. Nice flavor; the light smokiness from the chorizo complements the quail eggs wonderfully.
  • ★★☆☆ Tortilla Espanola -- Traditional Spanish omelet of organic eggs, con t potatoes, Spanish onions. Decent but not particularly noteworthy. It also came with some bread and butter; the butter was delicious.
  • ★★★☆ Pan con Tomate -- Grilled stirato bread rubbed with tomato, garlic and olive oil. Remarkably delicious for something so simple. Great flavor. The crust of the bread is ever so slightly too tough for my taste, but otherwise great dish.
