General Notes
Antidote is a upscale Chinese restaurant right by Domino Park, near the Williamsburg bridge landing. They serve a variety of dishes (although the menu is much more concise than your typical Chinese restaurant), but the menu as a whole has a decidedly Sichuan influence (note: Antidote also markets itself as having a Shanghai influence, which I'm personally less familiar with). The food is really good -- the execution of the dishes is consistently on point. Everything looks so good ... I'm excited to return and try the other dishes here.
Negatives
> Surprisingly, I found many of the dishes to be slightly too salty. Which is not a big deal for me (it is much more often the case that I find dishes to be underseasoned), but if you prefer lighter seasoning you might not enjoy this place as much.
Dishes Tasted
- ★★★☆ Cauliflower with Fresh Pepper -- fresh chili, garlic, soy.
- ★★☆☆ Sichuan Chili Fried Chicken -- with dried pepper and peppercorn. Fried pretty well but the pieces of chicken felt a bit too small -- it felt like there was too much breading for the amount of chicken.
- ★★★☆ Dongpo Pork -- eight hours braised pork belly, bok choy. This is absolutely DELICIOUS. Super tender, intensely savory, and so flavorful. My only complaint is that without a knife (and with the pork not fully sliced through), it's actually somewhat difficult to eat
- ★★★☆ Wonton in Chili Sauce -- Cooked well, lovely flavor -- the chili sauce is delightful.
- ★★★☆ Dan Dan Noodles -- sesame sauce, minced pork peppercorn. Great flavor, the noodles and veggies are cooked perfectly. Only complaint is that the sauce is slightly too salty.
- ★★★☆ Cucumber Salad -- tossed in scallion and ginger sauce, sesame oil. Slightly too salty, but otherwise excellent flavor, super crisp + refreshing. I haven't seen the thin slices of cucumber like this before -- it works really well!
