General Notes

An amazing French restaurant located near Greenwich Village. Amelie serves decidedly traditional French fare. A lot of restaurants which serve traditional French food feel very old-fashioned with ediocre food, but Amelie is an exception -- the food is prepared with amazing precision. The flavors and textures are on point. I tried the seared cod + beurre blanc + sauteed leeks, and it inspired me to try making the same dish at home. I would absolutely go again (even if just to have more charcuterie).

Positives

> The standout was definitely the charcuterie. I would absolutely recommend getting a board to share (ask them for recommendations, we did and got some excellent items). Honestly, I would be willing to just come here by myself for brunch and order just a 3-item charcuterie board.

Negatives

> It's really loud inside. You'll have a difficult time having a conversation. The good thing is that the tables are pretty small and intimate, so you won't be too far from other people in your party.

Dishes Tasted

  • ★★★☆ Seared Branzino -- haricots verts, sauce vierge, charred lemon. Simple but incredibly delicious. The cook on the branzino is perfect (crispy skin!) and the sauce vierge pairs well with it.
  • ★★★☆ Seared Cod au Beurre Blanc -- The cook on the cod was excellent, and the cod was well-seasoned. I actually love this pairing - cod, leeks (or green onion), cream, and acidity. I would have liked the sauce to be much more acidic and a bit more seasoned as well - that would have made a perfect dish.
  • ★★★★ Charcuterie Board -- We ordered the Brillat Savarin (semi-soft, buttery, hints of mushrooms, nuts, and truffles), Jambon de Bayonne (Basque country cured pork ham), and Duck Rillettes (slow cooked duck leg spread mixed with spices). The plate was beautiful, the accompaniments were nice and precise, bread was solid, and the charcuterie was excellent (particularly the Brillat Savarin!). Would absolutely recommend - this is actually pretty good value, $22 for 3 or $35 for 5.
