I had the "Hong Kong style toast" at Plow, and I was blown away at how simple and delicious it was. It really is so easy to make, but it's so delicious. It seems like not at all a traditional dish, but if you have some extra bread lying around, this is a great experiment to try.
Active Time: 10 min
Total Time: 10 min
> milk bread (2 slices)
> condensed milk (1/2 cup)
> instant coffee (1 tsp)
> sea salt
1. Toast the bread in a toaster oven well, about 5 minutes.
2. In the meantime, slightly heat up condensed milk in a small saucepan over low heat and mix in instant coffee. The condensed milk should not be hot, just warm.
3. Take the toast, spoon condensed milk over the top, and lightly sprinkle with sea salt. Enjoy!
> I don't think this is actually a traditional dish by any means, when I search up "Hong Kong toast" what I see everywhere is a Hong Kong style French toast with peanut butter in between. But this is what the dish was called at Plow, and I'm going with it.
> You could probably also use evaporated milk if you wanted it to be a bit less sweet (but then in that case, I'd just use a little less condensed milk in the first place). I actually used condensed oat milk and decaf instant coffee.
